Holiday Hustle.....

November 13, 2010
So the holiday season has arrived in full fury!  The time to shop, wrap, bake, can, and plan is upon us.  Right about this time every year we are ready to call off Christmas..doing ridiculous things like counting gifts to make sure we are being equitable in our giving...stressing about whose place to stop by first, fitting everyone in and taking into account that the weather is usually the embodiment of the whole "when hell freezes over" saying.  We used to be in some sort of holiday induced madness.  Until I decided that I would have no more of it..it was literally making us turn on each other.  So we made the decision to minimize and prioritize.  Making the most important thing each other and our kids.  The next..just that everyone we love and who is important to us knows that they are loved and remembered.  We will spend time traveling a little if we can, or invite others over if we can't, we will bake..as long as it can be fun..no holiday deadline or quota.  I try to remember the model for this approach throughout the year.  When I am cooking and someone tugs on my skirt asking me to play...or when I am on my way out the door in a stressed fury and someone asks for ONE more lingering hug, or when it is bedtime and ALL I WANT is to sit DOWN and the request for one more story or song is made.  I remind myself dinner-well truthfully sometimes it can wait, and extra hugs will be what I hold onto when my nest is empty-and all those extra bedtime stories and songs are a quiet chance to regroup and rest WITH my kids. These times will not last forever and the "the hustle" will always be there.  There will always be something to hurry off to, to take you away from what is truly important if you let it.  And most of the time..what is of secondary importance is what is outside that front door-while what is the most precious of all is right under your own roof!....enjoy your holiday and remember to love and live your life!

September 3, 2010
And soooo this would be the overdo and to the pint..part two!  The last time Ieft off I was commenting on all the new changes for our little family..but now i think it is time to take this in a new direction.  I was thinking today about inspiration and how it can be found in the most unsuspecting places.  I recently heard from an old friend whom I have not laid eyed on in atleast  8 years.  It occurred to me that I do not keep in touch as well as I would like to..with those in my life who hav...

Getting back to ME

April 29, 2010
Well, It has been a very long hiatus.  But I am back.  We are seeing the beginning of a new stage in our evolution as a family.  Mom has returned to the workforce, Dad has changed careers, kids are potty trained, going to dances and yes going to "sleepovers".  So much has happened since my last check in that I am sure that this will have to be in 2 parts.  I have finally decided to return to work.  I am counseling pregnant women to quit smoking and it is a great job working with great people,...

Brownies and Rainy Days

July 16, 2009
So we are mid week in a three week string of RAINY DAYS.  This can't be GOOD for the garden or morale.  I think my summer squash is drowning.   The children are growing so fast and I think I am running out of rainy day activities. I think I have made so many brownies and cookies with them that we have all gained weight.  Well I am starting writing on my book and I have decided to MAKE time for it.  It is afterall..good for the soul and hopefully someday the children will appreciate reading it...

Bittersweet

June 26, 2009
So it has been a little while since my last post. Life has been so busy. Almost everyone in our house potty trained now!!! Yipee!.  But with the triumph of growth and the movement forward comes the bittersweet reality that our little ones are growing so fast.  All the little moments, even the ones that drive me crazy are cherished and I know that I will miss the pitter patter of little feet someday.  Their words change fast and what used to be pweese..turns into a very grown up sounding pleas...

bare feet and popcorn!

June 9, 2009
We recently took our children to the Syracuse Zoo and had a fabulous time.  It was truly something wonderful to watch.  Them putting real animals in their treasure trove of memories.  An elephant, a tiger, monkeys...all there storybook animals came to life..and even our oldest was quietly impressed.  There are moments in life which are marked by the amazement you see in your children and the part you have to play in it.  What was a simple and actually inexpensive trip to the zoo was something...

Rainy Days

May 27, 2009
Rainy days are so gloomy if you take them at face value.  They  used to leave me sleepy and unmotivated wondering how to keep the kiddies occupied for the day...until I recently had a little  "epiphany".  It occured to me that rainy days are to mommies like winter is to mother earth.  A chance to rest, regroup and get cozied up.  They also provide an oppurtunity to stop and smell the roses (which are getting a good drink:).  Rain does not have to be depressing or tiring, it can be calm...

little gifts

May 19, 2009
It has been a while since my last posting because we have been busy bees.  As I have mentioned before...May is an incredibly hectic month for our family.  We pulled off our first kiddie party in 8 years..and it was splendid.  My friend Rose made fabulous cakes for the occasion and we had pizza for all the kiddies and parents and the children were amazed by their gift  (a sandbox that their dad made).  So now the month of May seems to be coming to a close and the flowers are blooming and ...

sweet things in small packages

May 12, 2009
So many truly meaningful things come in tiny packages.  The most wonderful part of my life is my kids and I can't possibly list all the things that they gave me for mother's day that had nothing to do with cards, or candy.  I woke up to "Happy muddoes day!" (a quote from the littlest) from all three at the same time!  I got Tisses (kisses) all day, and I got to watch my kids smile, jump, run, play, read each other stories and most of all...I got hugs.  Smushy, all encompassing, kiddie hug...

 CHIC STYLE ON A BUDGET

Here are some fabulous shopping sites that let you stay a Chic Mama on a budget..

Ebay  www.ebay.com.. Ebay is a fabulous site for new and second hand goods  for you and the kids.  I am a Huge ANTHROPOLOGIE clothing fan...and so are alot of ebay sellers (hint hint).  Also ebay has a site devoted to fair trade and this is an excellent way to pass it on in a global way. To make sure that workers and artisans receive fair fees for their work.  It is definitely a good  karma site to encourage!!!

ALERT!!!  If you are looking for great mommy bags or handbags-this site is the  "cat's pajamas" just type what bag brand you want and pick and choose..enjoy mommies!!

ETSY www.etsy.com You will love this site which is devoted to handmade artisans.  It is a great site to find truly unique and earth friendly gifts.  It supports small businesses and independent artisans and is a great way to pass it on. You can seriously find anything on this site form beads, handmade pottery, to custom made dresses. It is great.

also both of these sites are seller friendly as well.  Meaning if you have something you make and want to sell, or need to make some extra money..this may be a good resource.

 MOMMY PRODUCTS

Here are some fabuliscious mommy products I have found that are earth friendly and "finance-friendly" aswell.  I am a vegetarian mom and try my hardest to use products that will be respectful of the creatures we share our space with and of our planet as well.

EO Products- visit them at EOproducts.com these are great because they are gentle enough for the WHOLE family and NOT tested on animals.  They are also  Paraben free and certified organic. (my favorite: Grapefruit and Geranium)

Avalon organic lotions (my favorite is Grapefruit and Geranium)

Stonyfield Farm yogurt, regular and soy....

BPA free Nuby sippy cups..the kids love these

Morningstar Farms veggie crumbles...great vegetarian alternative to hamburg..that even my meat and potatoes husband will eat!!!

Tea Tree Oil.  This is an essential to any earth mamas cupboard.  It is a great and completely natural antiseptic (wonderful 1st aid essential).  It treats fungal infections better than any synthetic medication.  Make sure you do your research and buy a pure oil with no additives, from a reputable company and you read your warnings..even all natural remedies should be used with care.

Please keep checking back in the upcoming months we will be opening a shop featuring my handmade bags and other tidbits.

NEW I recently found a new product that I love for kids....Sinupret....research this one..it is a fabulous immune support supplement.

Lisa Leonard Designs..you have to check out these fabulous personalized jewelry pieces.  Especially with mother's day coming up!!!  Check it out at http://www.lisaleonardonline.com

*****LUNA BARS..these bars are super yummy (key lime is awesome) and nutritious for you or the kids.  They are a little pricey so I recommend buying them in Bulk if you can.
