A publisher’s mark, set at the close of a book, recording who made it. And by what hand. For centuries, it was the page that proved the work was properly done. It named the maker. It dated the making.
“
This is mine and I stand behind it.
WHY THIS EXISTS
A good service can stay with a guest for years. It can also be
overshadowed by one poor evening.
By morning, the room is reset, the plates are cleared, and the work
begins again.
That is the nature of the profession. The reputation may have taken
decades to build, but it is still judged plate by plate, service by service and review by review.
“
You know exactly how good you are.
This book cements your reputation and your legacy for decades to come.

This is not a collection of your “best dishes”, nor is it a “greatest hits” recipe book presented as something grander. It is not about the food at all. It is your name on the work itself, a numbered record of the thinking and standards that make the work unmistakably yours.
The edition is created to sit within the hospitality property where guests have already experienced what those standards truly mean. They can find it there, buy it there, and take it home to keep.
The edition allows the experience to continue long after the guest leaves the property. Taken home, it becomes a lasting reminder of the meal, the atmosphere, and the culinary leader whose work brought all of them together.
WHAT THIS IS
Your Signature Edition is a numbered limited edition self-published cookbook, created around your name, the hospitality property you lead and the guests who experience your professional mastery there.
Your cookbook is foiled, embossed, and case laminate bound to make a durable hardcover edition. It is then produced in your desired quantity for an exclusive offset print run, rather than printed on demand as orders arrive.
Multiple high-quality binding options, such as ribbon bookmarks, head and tail bands, gilded edges and more, are available at your discretion.
The size of the print run is agreed before production begins, and every copy is numbered to record its place within it.
That numbering is not decorative. It confirms that the edition is finite, specific to the property and directly tied to the chef whose work it records. An exclusive hardcover edition, created for a particular place and made available to the guests who have experienced your work first-hand.
“
A permanent record carrying your name, your standards and proof of its origin and provenance.
HOW THIS IS MADE
Colophon Editions raise the bar higher on production standards. That includes the printing, materials, binding, foiling and numbering, along with the many decisions that determine how the finished book feels in the hand and how well it stands up to being handled.
The input of the chef and property guides the look and feel of the book. Creative leadership is provided when required.
We begin with the world you have already created, including the restaurant, your relationship with the hospitality property and the way your name is presented.
We do not attempt to enforce somebody else’s idea of tasteful publishing on your cookbook and call the result personal.
The book should – and will – look unmistakably yours.
We are the engineers behind the edition. Our role is to make sure the structure, production and finish are right, without imposing a house style over the work being recorded.
The result is made, not manufactured.
This is self-publishing in its highest form. You or the hospitality property become your own publisher and retain all copyright and intellectual property ownership.

“
This cookbook is proof of your reputation and legacy. And as your own publisher, you are the captain of this ship.
WHY THIS BELONGS IN THE PROPERTY
The guest has experienced the food, understood the atmosphere of the hospitality property and seen the standard first-hand. The restaurant or hotel foyer is not simply a convenient sales channel. It is the context that gives the edition its meaning.
This is not generic branded merchandise placed near reception in the hope that somebody notices it. It is a direct continuation of the experience the guest has just had, made available while that experience is still present.
Some copies may also be used for select gifting, but gifting sits alongside the retail edition rather than replacing it. Your Signature Edition is intended to have a proper commercial life within the hotel or restaurant property. It is there to be discovered, bought, and taken home.
Once it leaves with the guest, part of the experience leaves with it. The service has ended, but your name remains attached to the work and to the place where it was first encountered. That is how this fine press edition earns its keep.

TWO EDITIONS, TWO PURPOSES

Your Signature Edition is the limited, numbered fine press edition described on this page. It is centred on you as chef and sold through the restaurant or hotel property.

If the property requires a larger, unnumbered retail run, a House Edition can follow, to the same production standards. It serves a different purpose, without diluting its craft.
ABOUT COLOPHON EDITIONS
Colophon Editions sits within fern & bracken, the culinary publishing imprint of 3 ferns.
Our parent brand – 3 ferns – has always worked from the same premise: a book should have a purpose. It should do something in the world rather than simply exist in it.
Here, that purpose operates in two ways. Your Signature Edition is made to be a genuine retail object, sold through the property rather than treated as an expensive piece of display material. At the same time, it entrenches the chef’s work as a permanent record and gives the hospitality property something substantial to stand behind.
Colophon Editions is led by Leesa Ellis, our Self-Publishing Strategist and Founder, and she is deliberately close to every project. The people guiding you on this journey are among the people working on Your Signature Edition cookbook.

With our decades of experience in publishing and book design specifically, we are not interested in flattering an idea into production. If something could be stronger, we will say so. If something does not belong in the book, we will advise that it stays out. Our work together is better when the conversations are honest.
WHY THIS EXISTS
Every Your Signature Edition ends with its own colophon, recording the facts of its production. It can include where and how the book was made, the size of the edition and the people responsible for bringing it into being.
It is the final page and an honest page: the point where the book stops making claims and stakes that claim for the record.
The number carried by each copy ties it directly to that edition. The binding, materials, and finish can be inspected. The provenance is not suggested through decorative language or false heritage. It is printed into the book itself.
The finished edition should never be purely recognisable as “a Colophon Edition project”. The work will be proveably yours.

BEGIN CONFIDENTIALLY
An edition of this calibre begins with a private conversation.
We will discuss the hospitality property, the intended reader, how the book will be sold, and what it needs to achieve for you and the property once it exists.
We will also look honestly at whether Your Signature Edition is the right format for the project before anything is designed, printed, or promised.
For chefs who need to take the idea to a general manager, ownership team or internal decision-maker first, we can prepare a concise overview explaining the edition, the production standard, and its role within the hospitality property.
All enquiries handled privately and with discretion
